7 Days to Puppy Friendship
Blog Series 4 of 5
Initial meeting
This blog is going back to my trip. I wanted to talk about Ian and his new friend Chico. When they first met, Ian was a mess; it took him a few days to even feel comfortable in yet another unfamiliar environment.
Chico was not too happy about having to share the limelight because Ian’s energy is very loud. He’s an LEO! Chico is a Cancer. I took the liberty of finding out more about this:

Looks like they both love love and treats lol, but there’s more to this. Continue reading for more!
Awkward Mealtime
Ian was on meds, and so I was giving him meds with wet food mixed with dry food. He is boujie asf like me, and so he doesn’t just eat anything. He had to take the meds with food, and I am not going to wait for him to decide to eat, so this makes it faster lol.
Chico was getting mad because he wanted some of Ian’s yummy food. I let him have Ian’s leftovers, but I also gave him treats every time it was time to give Ian his food. #equality
Chico was such a great energy to be around ❤
Outside
Ian really can’t be trusted. He is very sheltered, and he has already run away once.
Tell me how this dog finds a way to go under the fence of my friends’ home to smell the grass where the neighbor’s dog peed. The neighbor’s dog was a girl, lol.
Chico came to the rescue! He was snitching, but it was one of those times where it’s okay because he saved him. Ian could have run away and died, or been shot at for being mixed with Pit.
We got Ian back on the right side, and then he was properly monitored for the duration of the trip. Before, we would just let them out into the yard to play.
Altercation
A couple of days into the trip, we had a visitor! I met Smoke last year on my first trip. This is when he was a little puppy *look at the picture below*. He is all grown up now, and Ian doesn’t do well with big dogs, but he is good with little dogs because he feels less intimidated and more in control. Also, Ian isn’t neutered, so he thinks he is an alpha dog for being able to walk around with his balls hanging. (not for long tho lol he will be getting neutered soon for complications with his prostate, he’s going to be okay!)
Anyways, Ian was not having it; he became super aggressive, and so did Smoke. I had to wrestle my dog to keep him calm. We tried to calm them down, but there was so much chaos that the playdate ended abruptly.
Funny enough, this was Chico’s friend, but even Chico had formed a bond with Ian and felt the need to protect him.

Middle Ground
After the debacle of the playdate, Ian and Chico seemed to start getting a feel for each other, but there was still tension.
Like when Chico had this chew toy, Ian kept trying to take it away. Ian is notorious for stealing other puppies’ things. I thought he had grown out of this.
Ian also thought it would be okay to destroy some of Chico’s toys, so I did Chico a solid and brought him a bunch of toys when I got back to Texas! He loved them. Ian only likes to be with me, so he never uses them. I finally was able to find a puppy who would enjoy all these toys. Ian is also more into bones anyway.
It was funny to see Ian start to show interest in playing with these toys, but it was too late to claim them. I think dogs need other dogs around to be dogs. My dog is always around me, so he thinks he’s a person.
“Hey, you’re a dog like me”
I then had to fly back home to drive back and get Ian back home. I set out on my journey, and Ian stayed with Chico, Lily, and her BF.
By the time I came back, I saw how Ian and Chico were starting to realize they were both dogs, even though they are both very different, they spent their last day together enjoying every moment.
I think it was very humbling for both of them. We love our dogs so much, and they are so spoiled lol
This was the beginning of a beautiful puppy friendship. The reason I brought him on the trip in the first place.
Puppy Pals
Ian and Chico were now official friends. We saw them playing together, but still getting into arguments because they are like children lol. We kept trying to make them cuddle, but they both prefer their personal space. Here are some pictures!
Plotting and Scheming Against Hoomans
I’m pretty sure that every time they left the room together, they were up to no good. Lily was always on top of this; she doesn’t play. Either way, Ian threw up twice, and he had two accidents. Pee and poop… smh
Chico thought he would be blamed, and he would run to his crate to escape being reprimanded. I had to pull in the reins with Ian because he is potty-trained, but I had to acknowledge that this is normal for dogs in new surroundings.
I tried to be as keen as possible with monitoring him, but he can be sneaky, lol.
Luckily, by the end, there were no more accidents, and Lily was able to get her carpet cleaned!
