Snowstorm in Texas

Blog Series 2 of 5

I haven’t seen snow in 15 years!

It was Valentine’s Day! Lily and I were planning the itinerary, and we were going to do a BBQ and bonfire with s’mores! The snow spoiled the bonfire, but we still got to grill. Compliments to the chef who is Lily’s BF. Lily got herself a keeper!

The night was cold outside, but we were warm, and we ate good food!

Ian loved the snow!

This was Ian’s first time in the snow, and his reaction was adorable. Here’s a picture and some videos below!

Frozen Pipes

I used to live in Massachusetts in my youth, but I never knew that when it snows or it’s cold, your pipes can get frozen and burst! My friend knew exactly what to do, but it was a busy week, and we all forgot, so the pipes froze, and we didn’t have running water anymore. It was the struggle. We kicked our survival skills into full gear!

Imagine shoveling snow and then boiling that to take baths and pretty much do everything we need with water… well, that’s exactly what happened! We didn’t even get much snow, but luckily, it was enough, and the pipes slowly started leaking, and we then switched to that water. There was an announcement made, and we still had to boil the water because it was cold and because the water contained germs that were harmful to us.

If you live somewhere where it snows, I’m sure you already know the deal, but if you don’t know what it’s like or want some life hacks, check out this site below! You never know if and when you’ll need these life skills, but it’s something to always keep in the back of your head.

Snow baths

So, taking snow baths was interesting. Me being the boujie person that I am, was humbled. Good thing I’ve never shied away from hard work. I used to hate Florida, but now I’m so glad I live in Florida, and I don’t have to deal with these things. Texas was not ready either. They rarely get snow! This was such a random event, but it was genuinely nice to see snow again.

The snow water was weird; it burned when I stepped on it barefoot by accident because I had flip-flops on. When I got back to Florida, my right foot was pretty much-shedding skin, so I may have damaged it in the snow, but all is well now. I also got a minor rash from the snow water, even though we boiled it. Turns out the snow wasn’t very clean even though it was untouched. Looked good enough to me, lol

Everywhere you go, there’s going to be some kind of unwanted weather. In Florida, we just deal with hurricanes for the most part. Hurricanes don’t happen all the time here, but when they do, there’s mass panic to get water and supplies. Even though it happens yearly, hurricane season seems to sneak up on us.

Just like that, it was gone!

A lot of Texas was left without power and water, and the food supply ran out quickly in our area. I want to thank and appreciate God for allowing us to still have power, and we were able to find enough food to weather the storm.

Also, there were food drives helping people get supplies for their families. I was happy to see that the community looked out for one another.

A couple of days later, the snow melted, and it was back to normal again. Unfortunately, the pipes were still frozen. By the time I left, the Texans had supplies, and water was running at Lily’s house again! Happy ending after the snowstorm.
