With over 10 years of browsing online dating sites, I’ve taken the liberty of conducting some research on the top 7 dating apps I would recommend on the App Store. Moreover, follow along as I break down these sites and provide pointers on what they offer, what you can access for free, and the best uses for each app. Dating has never been more modern. You don’t even have to leave your home to make a meaningful connection or find a quick hookup. Dating is a part of life if you’re interested in falling in love or having sex. I look at it as a job interview. So, follow my format of key points for each app, their rank in this list, and more!
For the next week, I will be revealing 1 app daily on each post. Stay tuned and read all about the latest online dating apps.
Today, we will be reviewing #5 on our list!
Hily (Ranking #5)

- # Of users, Rating & creator: 5 M | 4.3 stars | Hily Corp
- The idea behind the name (slogan): Meet amazing people, find your kind of weirdo, be whoever you want, get in touch all over the world, find like-minded people, connect with no pressure and vibe. These apps thrive on being innovative and modern.
- User-friendliness: This app has a lot to offer. It’s easy to learn but not user-friendly. Each tab takes you into another world of things to discover. I found myself getting lost in the app and not in a good way. It seems to be an app that requires you to spend a lot of your time. However, they have many free features to keep you entertained, all while looking for a match.
- Format: Hily has 5 main tabs. Tab 1 is where you browse matches. You can also set your preferences for who you’re looking for. There’s a button to send a voice chat to like-minded people and a button to see who has liked you. Tab 2 is for chats. Here you can see featured profiles at the top and recommended profiles at the bottom. In the middle are your chats. Your chats will be filled with the people who liked you, so it’s kind of a mess. Tab 3 is where you will find the live streaming and have the option to go live too. You can join any life and send gifts to the people in life and chat with them! They will respond live too! Tab 4 is events or notifications. Notifications are separated into 4 categories: matches, likes, and your likes. Tab 5 is where you find your profile and settings. There are lots to do here, too. You can edit your profile and view it. Then there’s your compatibility quiz, and you can get verified to prove you’re not a catfish. There’s a premium store to stock up on features. Check your level and so much more.
- User preference: When browsing for partners, you have certain options to narrow your search; you can search by distance, age, and gender for free. With the premium, you’ll have more options on this end. You can also search globally, nearby, and expand your search beyond the barriers you place in case you run out of options.
- Features:
- For free:
- Browse through matches
- See who liked you
- Start a voice chat with like-minded people
- Live streaming is available to show who you are
- Compatibility test with 40 questions to help connect you with other users like you
- Chat with matches
- Receive coins as gifts
- I’m sure there’s more, so much to do on this app!
- Video chat feature, and sent audio messages, and much more!
- Premium – 7.99 per week :
- Unblur – discover who liked you
- Chat requests – reach your major right away, send a message and give alike in one tap.
- Boost – promote your stream.
- Rollback – undo hasty swipes
- Incognito mode – control who can see your profile
- Extended filters – search for users with additional filters
- Compatibility check – get a detailed breakdown of your matching score.
- There’s a premium store to purchase these effects. There’s confusion about whether this is unlimited if you subscribe… yes, after digging deeper, there is a limit. Please see the image below.
- Extras
- Premium store to purchase more actions like boost, rollback, and unblurs.

- My personal experience: Hily is a cool app, and right off the bat, I saw how modern it was. I can compare it to Tagged, but way better. I like that I can see who liked me and connect with them without having to pay. I don’t like that there’s so much going on because it mixes social media with dating, and I like to keep those things separate, but if you move to a new area, this is a great way to start your search for friends and dates.
- Final comments: I love that it’s modern and has a lot of free features. It gives many TikTok meets Instagram vibes with the gifts, streaming, and stories. Check it out!
Tomorrow we will be discussing Number 4 on the list!
