Importance of Good Company

Blog Series 3 of 5

What is Good Company?

A good company consists of having people around you who allow you to disarm yourself emotionally and mentally. This is when you are around people with whom you feel comfortable just being yourself. You should dwell here for a bit and just witness how you feel in this atmosphere. If you feel like you’ve arrived and you are home, then you found good company.

Unusual Circumstances

With this good company, you will encounter many things. Things that will test your friendship and your mind. You will be around this company long enough to see what fuels them vs what drains them. Their hopes and dreams all while they are exposed to you and yours. You have to surround yourself with this good company to thrive.

You can be a lone wolf, but we all need someone at some point for something. Plus, you don’t have to do this thing called life alone. Not even Adam was left alone when God created the earth. Cosmic pairings are of the divine and should be taken seriously, for you will learn about yourself as you figure out your purpose on this earth.

Through Thick and Thin

When you encounter these things that test you, you will also be a witness to whether the company you keep is good for you. It’s like we have this natural ability to know when someone makes us feel a certain way.

In times of celebration, note how those around you react:

  • Are they happy and celebrating with you?
    • This can be real or fake
  • Are they neutral and in deep thought?
    • This could be them beating themselves up for not being successful as you
    • Or plotting against you
  • Are they criticizing and making snide comments?
    • This can be them showing real concern
    • This can be hating and jealousy

In times of sadness, note how those around you react:

  • Aren’t able to be there for you
    • Could mean they don’t care
    • Could mean they can’t handle what you’re going through
    • Could mean they have too much going on
  • Are there for you
    • Could mean they just want clout
    • Could mean they care for you

In general, life happens. You want to be around people who generally show concern for you, and you want to take care of your good company and check in on them from time to time. Keep each other afloat.

These reactions around you should never go unnoticed, for they hold the key to the answer to where you stand in this person’s life. The same goes for you, how are you behaving around good company. You get what you give.

“If you want to grow in wisdom, spend time with the wise. Walk with the wicked, and you’ll eventually become just like them.”
Proverbs 13:20 TPT

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
Romans 8:28 NLT

“Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?”
1 Corinthians 3:16 NLT

“But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed.”
1 Corinthians 15:51-52 NLT

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. So encourage each other with these words.”
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 NLT

Bonding

Well then, once you have established what is called friendship or any kind of relationship, really, you get to bond and just get to know more and more about these people who make you happy. Some may be good or bad; no one is perfect.

Music

One phenomenon I would like to mention is being exposed to new music. New music will aid in expanding your worldview. This is the way you see life. If you are normally low energy, step out of your comfort zone and hang out with someone wild, or the opposite. It’s fun and interesting to interact with all kinds of individuals when you feel that vibe of good company. It’s when things aren’t forced, and they happen organically.

When things happen organically, it’s because it flows; a lot of communication is unspoken but understood. It’s when there are no worries. However, realize you’re not a mind reader, and if you need clarification, you need to communicate. It’s okay to want to communicate, just don’t beat around the bush and make it awkward. I propose being direct with this approach to be respectful and not assume before you have all your information.

Survival skills

The last thing here stands out: survival skills. Yes, Survival skills. Why? You want to be keen and surround yourself with people who make you feel safe.

To put it simply, anything can happen at any moment, and if you’re around people who aren’t good company, you’re going to have a hard time surviving.

How to become better at surviving you ask? Be INFORMED, learn self-defense, and check out this cool website source for more tips! (Just found this online because everything is Googleable)

“Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!”
Romans 12:16 NLT
